Our New Chapter is Reaching Even Further
We’re excited to share that we’re now able to support an even broader range of individuals and communities. Through MIYAD—Migrants, Indigenous Peoples, Youth, Adults, and People with Disabilities—we’re making sure no one is left behind.
Our goal is simple: to empower people with the skills, confidence, and independence they need to thrive. For many, driving isn’t just about getting from point A to point B—it’s about opening doors to employment, education, and social connection.
The Driver Access & Equity Program (DAEP) provides fully funded driving lessons for eligible clients. This funding is specifically for DAEP-approved learners and cannot be used for other MIYAD Wheels services.
With DAEP grant funding, we’ve been able to:
DAEP funding is strictly allocated to approved clients, vehicles, and program costs. but if you are eligible, that means you can get your licence for free!
Beyond DAEP, MIYAD Wheels keeps driving lessons affordable through local partnerships, Grants and fundraisers. we currently have a few supporters helping keeping things cheap and giving assistance to those dealing with financial hardship
our Trained volunteers help learners gain supervised driving hours, reducing the need for paid instruction and making the process more accessible and maintainable.

At Umbrella, we understand that the first step toward driving is obtaining your learner's permit. We’re here to support you every step of the way, helping you get your keys for life.
We know that getting a driver’s licence can feel overwhelming, but we can help just about anyone!
Since 2023, the MIYAD Wheels Program has been dedicated to helping learner drivers in the Great Southern and Greater Albany areas gain their licenses. As a project under the Not-for-Profit Umbrella Group Great Southern Inc., we support individuals facing financial hardship, limited resources, or personal barriers.
Driving is more than just a skill—it’s a pathway to independence, opportunity, and connection. We believe everyone, regardless of their circumstances, deserves the chance to learn, grow, and succeed.

We provide a step-by-step, supportive process to make getting a driver’s licence more accessible:
- Theory Support – Learn the road rules with Keys4Life lessons to prepare for your written test.
- Driving Lessons – Gain confidence with a qualified instructor or volunteer supervisor.
- Dual-Control Vehicles – Need a car? We provide both manual and automatic options.
- Practical Test Support – From ID documents to mock tests, we’ll help you every step of the way.
The MIYAD Wheels Program is designed to help those who face challenges in obtaining their driver’s licence. MIYAD stands for Migrants, Indigenous Peoples, Youth, Adults, and People with Disabilities—groups who often experience barriers to driving.
We support individuals who:
- Face financial hardship (students, unemployed, part-time workers).
-️ Lack of access to a roadworthy vehicle or a supervising driver.
-️ Experience physical, emotional, or learning challenges that make driving more difficult.
-️ Live in remote areas with limited access to driving resources.
Our goal is to break down barriers, build confidence, and create opportunities for everyone.
A driver’s licence isn’t just about passing a test—it’s about breaking barriers, building confidence, and opening doors to employment and education. The impact extends beyond individuals to families and the wider community, creating lasting change. And here in Albany, Denmark or Mount Barker, we don't have reliable public transport.
We collaborate with local organizations and support services to ensure no one is left behind:
- Job Agencies – Skillhire, AtWork, APM-DES
- Youth & Community Services – Headspace, Migrant Services, AYSA, Parent Pathways
- Education & Disability Support – Alta-1, Youth Futures, Albany Secondary Education Support, NDIS providers
We provide services in Albany, Denmark, and Mt Barker, with dual-control vehicles available in Albany and Mt Barker for lessons and driving assessments.
